Abstract: Focusing on the engineering demands for supporting grid stability and serving renewable energy integration through hydropower, this work aims to compare and analyze the short-term scheduling performance between conventional hydropower plants (CHP) and pumped storage plants (PSP). Firstly, a two-layer short-term scheduling model for the CHP-wind-solar-PSP hybrid energy system is established, with the objectives of maximizing hybrid system power generation and minimizing operational risks. Then, a regulation capability analysis framework for CHP and PSP is developed, analyzing the short-term scheduling performance from the perspectives of both the system and plant. Finally, a case study in China is conducted to analyze the short-term scheduling performance of CHP and PSP in the CHP-wind-solar-PSP hybrid energy system. This work analyzes the short-term scheduling performance of CHP and PSP in renewable energy integration from aspects such as regulation quality and regulation intensity. The results are of significant importance for the analysis of the regulating role of CHP and PSP in the power grid.
