Abstract: The Integrated Planning of Water Resources and Management (IPWRM) initiative by the Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC) in Abu Dhabi addresses urgent water security challenges posed by rapid population growth, climate change, and over-reliance on groundwater resources by agriculture. As the Emirate of Abu Dhabi grapples with groundwater depletion and rising salinity levels, the IPWRM offers a comprehensive, adaptive framework for the sustainable management of all water sources, including desalinated, recycled, groundwater and rain. This paper outlines the IPWRM's innovative approach, which leverages the GoldSim modelling platform to assess multiple thematic pathways for balancing water demand across agriculture, municipal, industrial, and commercial sectors.
