Abstract: This study aims to investigate the wave induced hydrodynamics on a dense-column sparse-row cylindrical arrangement of rigid elements. Most studies involving vegetation, bamboo arrays etc. have a large number of cylindrical structures mimicking rigid vegetation. The numerical studies involving these cases usually employ a macroscopic approach which introduces a vegetation-related source term to a governing equation to simulate the vegetation induced effects, in the present work we have utilized a microscopic approach i. e., the cylinders in the vegetation zone are being explicitly discretized in the numerical domain. The finite volume framework OpenFOAM has been utilized to carry out the investigation for different regular wave cases where the turbulent kinetic energy, velocity, vorticity, wave loads and the transmission coefficients for the different cases.
