Abstract: Climate change has increased the frequency and intensity of floods, emphasizing the need for accurate discharge measurements. Contact-based methods face limitations in accessibility and safety during floods, making non-contact technologies essential. This study aims to derive optimal mean velocity conversion coefficients (α) by analyzing the relationship between surface velocity and mean velocity in Wicheon River, measured using ADCP and an electromagnetic surface velocity meter. The research applies the logarithmic law to evaluate depth-to-grain size ratios (D/k) and derive α values, while Qrev software is used to analyze cross-sectional velocity profiles and their normalized relationships. Additionally, surface velocities from the electromagnetic surface velocity meter are compared with mean velocities from ADCP profiles to calculate α. The α values were validated by estimating discharge and comparing it with stage-discharge curves. This study enhances the reliability of non-contact discharge measurement and proposes versatile α coefficients for diverse river conditions, contributing to improved river management and water resource forecasting.
