Abstract: The surf zone hydrodynamics are predominantly governed by wave breaking, making the accurate modeling of this phenomenon essential for reproducing shallow water wave propagation. Phase-resolving numerical models have proven capable of capturing the complex physics of wave dynamics from deep waters to extremely shallow surf zones, even under severe breaking conditions. Based on this outcome, an extensive parametric study was carried out using the SWASH model to provide insights into the hydrodynamic uncertainties in wave transformation across different shallowness conditions. The primary objective is to develop a fully validated robust and reliable numerical tool for modelling surf zone processes. The study includes comprehensive comparisons with physical model experiments carried out by Scaravaglione et al. (2024) and benchmark analytical solutions, such as those by Battjes and Groenendijk (2000), Hofland et al. (2017) and Lashley et al. (2020), to validate the model’s performance and enhance its predictive accuracy
