Abstract: The application of Nature-based Solutions (NbS) has gained widespread acceptance as an effective way to tackle social-environmental issues by improving ecological services. The prevailing NbS practices either focus on a regional ecological network or on micro-scale design, such as streetscapes and parks. This research demonstrates a hybrid NbS approach that incorporates both small- and large-scale approaches. This approach involves four components: data collection and validation, environmental vulnerability analysis, integrated NbS planning at regional scale, and a downscaling design guideline under different urban contexts. This approach has been implemented in Jinhua City, ranging from regional spatial planning to specific waterfront design. It demonstrates how NbS spatial structures and functions on a large scale have been translated into design languages on a smaller scale, resulting in the provision of ecological services.
