Abstract: The human activity, climate change, and rising sea levels are all contributing factors that are causing coastal erosion, which is an ongoing issue. The fact that it is a long-term risk, which means that it may take several months or even years before its effects become apparent, thus it is necessary to devise protection methods that are both preventative and long-lasting. As a standard practice, grey constructions such as breakwaters and sea walls are employed to slow down the process of erosion. However, these buildings have a negative impact on the ability of shoreline populations to make a living as well as the biodiversity of the populations associated with the shoreline. Nature-based solutions, on the other hand, offer a workable alternative by making use of natural processes and ecosystems to lessen the destructive effects of erosion and to strengthen the resilience of coastal areas. This is accomplished by making use of those processes that occur naturally. This paper presents a practical insight on the use of non-woven biodegradable Secutex® Green Soft Rock as coastal protection solution. To date, only 2% of geosynthetics are currently produced from renewable resources, it is estimated that natural fibers and biopolymers could replace synthetic materials in up to 50% of applications. This shift aligns with the growing trend towards circular economy and sustainable development in construction practices.
