Abstract: The present study investigated the effects of submerged wall jets with varying flow rates (Q=1S−1, 2S−1, 3S−1, 3.5S−1, 4S−1) on erodible sand bed under the fixed condition of sluice gate opening of 1 cm, apron length of 5 cm and tailwater depth is 10 cm. The video camera and particle image velocimetry (PIV) were used to record the whole process time evolution of the local scour hole, and the change of the flow field in the scour hole was calculated. The results reveal that there are self-similarities in the scouring hole profile and flow field structure of the three scouring stages (early, middle and equilibrium) corresponding to different flow rates after normalization with appropriate length or velocity scale. The distributions of streamline, velocity distribution, average kinetic energy distribution and Reynolds shear stress distribution in the three phases are analyzed in detail, and the results show spatial self-similarity.
