Abstract: On September 19, 2024, during severe hydrological and meteorological conditions, a levee failure occurred on the Lamone River in Northern Italy, flooding urban settlements and crops between the cities of Imola and Ravenna. This work investigates the flood dynamic by reconstructing the inundation using both hydrological and hydrodynamic numerical models. The flooding event was simulated by adopting the GPU-accelerated PARFLOOD model that solves the 2D Shallow Water Equations. The numerical scheme achieves first- and second-order accurate approximations in space and time. The upstream boundary conditions were evaluated by adopting the Rhyme hydrological model, calibrated using streamflow data from 2008 to 2024.
