Abstract:

As we navigate the challenges of a changing climate, harnessing advanced technologies like Digital Twins is vital for enhancing water resilience and supporting environmental restoration. In 2021, the European Commission launched the definition and development of a Digital Twin aimed at virtually representing the oceans, the Digital Twin Ocean (DTO). Building on this effort, the IDEATION project was funded in 2024 to lay the groundwork for a Digital Twin of the entire hydrosphere. The project aims to develop a roadmap for the future development of a Digital Twin of inland waters interoperable with the DTO.
