Trend in Water Use and Its Anticipation Along the Wolowona River

Abstract: The Wolowona River flows along Ende Regency, which has the catchment area of 19,103.90 ha, length of +31.50 km, and the average width of 15–30 m, the slope of 75%. The upper stream of this river flows from the Lepembusu Mountain and the downstream is Nanganesa estuary. This river water is used for agricultural irrigation, micro-hydro/power plants, raw water supplies for the city Ende, and in addition to many more undetected uses. The main problem of this river is an increasing trend of use for the development of tourism and the development of home industries such as tofu factories, livestock, and increased raw water supplies. This trend in water used, the trigger to be done a study of water allocation analysis along the Wolowona river to anticipate the problem of water conflicts. To cope this problem, it will be done the water allocation analysis study, which was conducted using the water allocation model. The results of this study are used to formulate a model of Wolowona watershed management, by taking into account the fluctuation of the discharge. Subsequently, watershed conservation efforts are being developed to ensure the sustainability of the more widely used of Wolowona river water. The trend in Wolowona river water use can be anticipated and well-regulated, by implementation the model of Wolowona watershed management and conservation program. Furthermore, the sustainability of the Wolowona watershed system can be achieved.
