Abstract: A method, which was proposed by Yamazaki et al. (2016a, 2016b) to evaluate a temporal and spatial distribution of landslide occurrence during a rainfall event in a drainage basin, is applied to identify rainfall conditions and their differences at two drainage basins of Japan (Ohkanasawa torrent in Izu Oshima and the torrent in Hiroshima). Sediment-induced disasters took place owing to severe rainfalls in 2013 and 2014, respectively. The results show that the critical rainfall curve to cause sediment disaster in a volcanic area is higher than that in weathered granite area, resulting from geomorphologic and hydrologic characteristics of mountain slopes.
