Abstract:

Measuring flood discharge is essential for many applications, including the development of stage-discharge rating curves, calibration and validation of flood models, issuing flood warnings, and evaluating the effects of climate change. However, accurately and safely obtaining these measurements remains challenging. The extreme flow conditions and presence of instream debris often make it impractical or unsafe to use conventional monitoring equipment such as Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers (ADCPs) or tethered current meters deployed from bridges or cableways.
