Abstract: We continuously monitored water quality in two catchments with predominantly agricultural loading to evaluate how the implementation of extensive natural flood management (NFM) measures influences the catchment-scale loads in boreal-northern temperate climate conditions. NFM measures such as two-stage channels (TSCs), wetlands and rocky sills decreased the suspended sediment and total phosphorus loads. Part of the reductions were likely caused by simultaneous adoption of conservative cultivation practices.
