Abstract: Removing excess water from the road surface is crucial in reducing aquaplaning effect and improving traffic safety. Porous asphalt can efficiently be used for that purpose, and hence its hydraulic performances need to be simulated accurately. This is one of the main objectives of the RESAFE (Road and Environmental Safety related to water – pavement Interactions) project, and here are presented some preliminary results of an innovative numerical approach for coupled modeling of surface and subsurface flows on porous asphalts. This approach is first applied in the vertical plane and successfully validated against the experimental data, while later extended to the horizontal plane to account for both longitudinal and transversal slopes on the road.
