Abstract: Thermal stratification, a natural phenomenon in warmer seasons due to rising air temperatures, negatively impacts water quality by fostering excessive cyanobacterial growth. This study explores the use of a wind - powered aeration system to eliminate thermal stratification and its effects on cyanobacteria distribution under laboratory conditions. These turbines harness wind energy to draw air into the water column, avoiding the need for electrical conversion. Various geometric configurations of Savonius rotors were tested for destratification efficiency, with the 4S(45) rotor achieving a 95.6% destratification efficiency. This rotor was also used to investigate the effect of artificial destratification on cyanobacteria populations. Results show that artificial aeration and mixing relocate cyanobacteria from optimal growth areas, causing them to settle at the bottom.
