Abstract: Quantifying the wave attenuation associated with coastal vegetation is an important part of assessing the contribution that vegetation can provide to coastal protection. Recent works have shed light on the mechanisms governing wave attenuation by submerged flexible vegetation, but it is unclear how a current can influence this phenomenon. In this work, I explore the effect of a current on the wave attenuation properties of a submerged flexible canopy by using analytical models and experimental data recently published. The analysis presented shows that a current can either reduce or enhance wave attenuation depending on the specific conditions.
