Abstract: Based on 10 years of field observations (2015–2025) in the waters of Novik Bay (Peter the Great Gulf, Sea of Japan) using the Drop Ball Test (DBT) method, a comprehensive analysis of the spatial heterogeneity of sea ice strength characteristics has been carried out. Significant spatial variability in the mechanical properties of the ice cover has been demonstrated. From statistical analysis of the experimental data, a relationship has been established between the heterogeneity coefficient and the area of the studied site, reflecting the scale effect in the variation of strength characteristics. A formula is proposed for calculating the spatial heterogeneity coefficient
