Abstract: Paper presents the results of computer modeling of the drift of ice fields under action of the wind at varying in time velocity, which reflects real stages of the wind: origin, existence and disappearance. Ice fields are modeled in the form of flat plates of varying sizes and thicknesses corresponding to real ice fields observed in the Arctic seas. Differential equation of motion of isolated ice field was used for modelling, which takes into account the inertia of ice field and the attached water mass, the effect of wind on the surface part of ice field and the resistance to the movement of the water mass on submerged part of the ice field. To parameterize the effect of wind and the resistance of water mass, the well-known methods of Aerodynamics and Naval Architecture were used, which are applied to calculate the speed of the ship usually. The simulation results show that due to the inertia of ice fields, the wind-induced drift of ice fields continues after the wind stops, the longer the larger dimensions and thickness of the ice field. The results of the study are of practical interest for the management of ice situation in the water areas of the location of facilities for development of mineral resources of the Arctic seas shelf.
