Abstract:
Wastewater infrastructure is being asked to treat greater flows, meet tighter discharge standards and remain resilient to increasing climatic and operational volatility - often using assets designed for a different era. Engineered vortex flows offer a practical way to rethink two fundamental functions of urban water infrastructure: conveying stormwater ad wastewater safely and treating wastewater more effectively. This article traces the evolution of vortex flow technology from hydraulic research to full-scale deployment across sewer systems and industrial and municipal wastewater treatment, and examines how site-specific, measured outcomes are advancing Sustainable Development Goal 6.
