Abstract: Skew weirs are used for reducing afflux while passing a certain discharge. Herein, the discharge characteristics of a sharp-crested skew weir are explored. The concept of elementary discharge coefficient is utilized for predicting the discharge. Based on experimentation, an equation for the discharge coefficient of skew weirs is determined as a function of weir head to weir height and the weir angle relative to the channel axis. The discharge over skew weirs is well predicted.
