Abstract: In the numerical simulation of turbulent flows with a free surface, an additional conservation equation called the space conservation law has to be solved along with the mass and momentum conservation equations.A surface adaptive finite volume method for solving free surface turbulent flows is presented. The computational mesh define hexahedra that are used as the control volumes in a finite-volume method in which the mesh moves to adapt to the free surface and dependent variables are located at the centre of each volume. Numerical computations are carried out for turbulent flow and are compared with experimental data and other computed results. It is found that these are in agreement and indicate that the method can be extended to more complex turbulent flows with a free surface.
