Abstract: The paper describes a test that was carried out to check the implementation of viscous stresses in a 3D code that can model flows with a free-suface. A pair of counter rotating vortices are allowed to travel upwards and along a free-surface. The results, which are compared with those of a recently carried out independent simulation, provide an important check on a code that has been specifically developed to model turbulence in flows that have a deformable free-surface.
