Abstract: Nam Ngiep 2 Hydropower Project situates in the southeastern part of the Jars Plain, Xieng Khouang Province, about 474km by road from Vientiane, the capital of Lao PDR. It is developed solely for power production. The main structures of the complex are 70. 5m high clay core rockfill dam, right bank open spillway, right bank discharge scour outlet (for river diversion) , 10. 94km long right bank headrace tunnel and surge tank (136m height and 7m in dia. ), penstock (main stock is 1, 203m long and 3. 4m in internal dia. ), ground powerhouse (81. 22m×55. 8m×44. 7m) , 20 high tributary dam and 8. 15km long headrace tributary tunnel. The catchment area of the reservoir is 693km 2, total storage capacity is 1. 577×10 8 m 3 and the regulation storage is 1. 19×10 8 m 3. It is an annual regulatory reservoir. The operation head of the hydropower station varies from 430m to 491m. The installed capacity is 3x60MW, guaranteed output is 56. 0MW and the annual average power production is 7. 21×10 8 kW. h.
