Abstract: Flow regimes and energy dissipation are both the serious concerns for the design of hydraulic structures. In the previous work, a kind of multiple slit-type energy dissipaters (M-STED) was developed, and its higher energy dissipation was demonstrated comparing with the traditional slit-type ones (STED) .In this study, based on dimensional analysis, classifications of flow regimes by empirical correlations are presented, the critical conditions of the flow regime conversion of the M-STED were experimentally investigated through three sets of those physical models with nine cases, and comparisons were conducted between the results of both the STED and M-STED. Meanwhile, under the present conditions, the results concluded that the M-STED increased the relative energy dissipation ratio by nearly 5%comparing with the STED.
