Abstract: Hydrodynamic cavitation is a novel technique that has been found to be substantially application in wastewater treatment, especially in degradation of refractory pollutants. Cavitation means phenomena of formation, growth and collapse of cavitatin bubbles. Microjets and shock waves due to collapse of cavitation bubbles can release high intensity energy, which generate strong oxidation conditions of chemical process such as hydroxyl radical (OH*) and hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2). This paper utilized a self-developed reactor of a Venturi tube with different square multi-orifice plates to degrade a mixing wastewater of hydrophilic contaminant (p-nitrophenol) and hydrophobic contaminant (nitrobenzene). The mixing wastewater, which was compounded in the tank of the hydrodynamic cavitation reactor, flowed through the Venturi tube firstly, and then through the multi-orifice plate section. In the experiment, changes in flow velocity, initial concentration, circulation time of the mixing wastewater, number and size of the orifices were investigated. And the degradation rates of the mixing wastewater under the above-mentioned different conditions were analyzed by an ultraviolet spectrophotometer.
