Abstract: A vortex settling basin (VSB) is an efficient continuous flushing system which in present study, complex flow behaviour within the basin simulated numerically. The 3D Naveir–Stokes equations solved by application of a Laminar and k-εstandard model and The SIMPLE algorithm was used for the velocity-pressure coupling. The free-surface was simulated by using the volume of fluid (VOF) method. The distinctive features of two earlier proposed vortex settling basins were investigated, and a new geometry based on these features was presented. Flow efficiency and flow streamlines investigated for the three models and the third model has a proper efficiency as a desired design for the vortex settling basin.
