Abstract: This study investigates the characteristics of flow and sediment transport in Ishiibi water diversion of Kase River, Japan. This river gives much sediment so that the water intake needs to remove sand and clay from the flowing water. The Ishiibi water diversion is more than 400 years old but its functions for not only flood control, water diversion for irrigation or drinking water have not been evaluated. By using 3D numerical modeling of flow and sediment transport, the role of the Ishiibi water diversion is implemented quantitatively.
