Abstract: A review of research work on effect of seepage on incipient motion, flow field and bed shear stress, independently for sand beds is done; effect of upward seepage on scour with different hydraulic structures on sand beds is presented. An attempt is made to correlate the two. A need of detailed flow field analysis is emphasized for each hydraulic structure as the mechanics of scour in each case is different.
