Abstract: The results from numerical simulation are presented to investigate the spreading of a two-dimensional turbulent aerated jet in a tank filled with finite water depth. A multiphase model is applied to simulate the problem under investigation. To evaluate the effect of the air content on the spreading of the jet, non-aerated jet is also simulated for comparison. The results show that the air content has little effect on the velocity profiles provided that the downstream distance is larger than five jet slot width. Good agreement between the simulated results and available laboratory experiments is obtained. The effect of the air content on the pressure distribution and the maximum impinging hydrodynamic pressure on the bottom of the tank is discussed.
