Abstract: By means of this paper, the authors want to give a status report on the research of the effect of avalanche impulse waves in reservoirs. For such a problem, in general a physical model is favoured. In addition, the authors try to find a practicable way to complement physical analysis with 3-dimensional numerical simulation by using the software Flow-3D® (Flow Science, Inc., used version 9.3. 1). The short-term objective is the bench marking of the numerical model with the physical model combined with the verification of the assumed hypotheses. In the future, it is necessary that nature reference data of avalanche impacts are available in order to achieve a better model calibration for the physical and numerical models.
