Abstract: This article provides an overview of low-carbon opportunities across the water asset lifecycle, with a focus on industrial desalination (e.g., for green hydrogen production), based on our experience working with clients globally. We focus on desalination as it is considered a key technology to reduce water scarcity and drive the energy transition. However, concerns include high energy intensity, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and environmental impacts. Desalination is a significant contributor to global GHG emissions, which is expected to increase unless low-carbon solutions are incorporated.
