Abstract: An assessment of the wave energy available in the Moroccan coast was performed using SWAN, a third-generation wave model, covering a period of 30 years, from 1991 to 2020. The wave model was forced with 10 m wind data from the new ERA-5 reanalysis and boundary conditions generated by the WAVEWATCH III model, also forced by ERA5. Significant wave height and period and wave energy were analyzed at a regional scale. The mean wave energy density within the domain is estimated to be about 20 kW/h. The most energetic area of the Moroccan coast is located at the center between the cities of Agadir and Essaouira. Five specific locations were evaluated along the coast to determine the most energetic ones. Finally, the performance of six different wave energy converters was assessed for each of the five locations.
