Abstract: The wave height reduction by the submerged plate as a wave filter is a possibility knownfor many years. It was first chosen because it is the idealized case of a submergedbreakwater. The experiments showed that it acts differently,so a new type of wavebreaker was developed. At the moment it seems to be interesting to use this wave filteras a primary wave breaker to enhance the performance of the shore protection systemand/or to solve erosion problems along the coastline. But is there already sufficientknowledge about the main construction parameters? The aim of the present paper is tocompare different published results about the wave height reduction by the structure. The results show that as yet not all influencing parameters are understood.
