Abstract: For several centuries the city waswalled against enemies.The area ofthis old city is represented bytoday's inner city core.Outside thecity there existed a natural meande-ring system of river branches of theDanube(picture 1 and 2). Around the year 1850 the city beganto grow.At that time the city-wallhas been demolished.To improve thepossibility for urban development itwas of great importance to controlthe meandering river branches system.
