Abstract: In this paper, a method for the estimation of resistance in macro-rough open channel, with varying roughness patterns along the wetted perimeter, is developed. The calculation takes into account the lateral momemtum exchange between zones of different roughness and allows for a fair estimate of bulk friction factors starting with the partial friction factors corresponding to the different roughness zones of the boundary.
