Abstract: Dimensionless numbers are often used to analyze and presentexperimental data.Design charts are frequently presented indimensionless form because this usually increases the utility ofthe charts; relatively few charts are needed to cover a widervariety of possible physical arrangements.A well known example inhydraulics is the Moody diagram.A second advantage of usingdimensionless numbers is that specific values of these numbers havephysical significance,such as the onset of turbulence.There are,however,some pitfalis associated with analyzing and presentingexperimental data solely using dimensionless numbers. In thispaper,data abstracted from Schlichting's"Boundary Layer Theory"(Schlichting 1968),as well as some fictitious data,are used toexamine some of the problems with using dimensionless numberspresented in a log-log format.
