Abstract: A laboratory investigation of bubble group be haviour has been undertaken to further the fundamental knowledge about these structures. This paper discusses some of the progress made in this study. Because bubble groups are similar in shape to singlephase thermals, the focus of the investigation has been a comparison of these buoyant flows. Based on the experimental results to date, it appears that there is some justification in modelling bubble groups with a two-phase thermal model.
