Abstract: This paper reports on a detailed comparison between the measurements of averaged quantities, the turbulent fluxes of momentum and mass and the variance of density fluctuations in a steady, stably stratified mixing layer and the k-ε-c'~2 model (Launder and Spalding, 1974) for the transport of turbulent kinetic energy k, energy dissipation ε and the variance of a scalar quantity (). The emphasis of the calculations was on accurate numerical simulation of the turbulent fluxes of momentum and mass according to the k-ε model, as a continuation of studies performed by Viollet (1987) and Abraham (1987). The experimental data base used in this study was chosen for the next code benchmark of the IAHR Working Group on Refined Modelling of Flows (Munchen, Nov. 1989).
