Abstract: A two-dimensional finite difference resolution of Reynolds equations with turbulent stresses and fluxes transport model is presented and applied to stratified channel flow experiments. The method gets rid of artificial stabilizing procedures by means of a direct implicit solution of the coupled linearized system of diffusion and source terms. The effect of increasing the mixing in unstably stratified flow is better predicted than using the k-epsilon model (still slightly underpredicted with respect to experiment), and more generally counter-gradient diffusion phenomena are observed.
