Abstract: A two-dimensional numerical model for predicting turbulent fows in sedimentation tanks is described. Non-orthogonal boundary-fitted non-staggered grids facilitates improved han-dling of boundary conditions in flows with complex geometries. The standard k-ε turbulence model provides a flexible closure for the governing equations. Sample calculations have been made for the case of a round tank with inlet baffle and a two-part sloping bottom divided by a sill, based on a experimental model investigated by McCorquodale (1978).
