Abstract: The siltation in a harbour depends on the exchange of water through the entrance and on the residence tines of the water in different parts of the harbour. An experimental investigation in scale mo dels of various harbours showed that estimates of these residence times are feasible by dividing the harbour in appropriate coherent regions.
