Abstract: Primary sea water intrusion into a horizontal outfall is a completely reversible phenomenon. However, if this intrusion pentrates into the risers then undesirab le malfunctioning might follow. This paper gives an analytical and experimental inv estigation of the characteristics of the flow in a horizontal outfall subjected to primary intrusion. Expressions were obtained for the velocity distributions and discharge at the exit section. Profiles of the risng plume and salt wedge lengths were also obtained.
