Abstract: Some of the initial results of the studyconcerning "chutes of absorption of energy",that have beencarried out by the Hydraulic Department of Hydrographic StudiesCentre are presented in this paper. This study has taken place atthe, request of the Water Board of the River Tagus, the body whichis in charge of management of the hydraulic resources of thisriver. This river, like many others, has many subsidiary basins with verysteep channels, the erosion of which causes a progressivedestabilization, whether this be due to natural or artificialphenomena.E.g.reduction in the solid flow as a result of foresttreatment in the area, can bring about undermining in specificareas with a considerable yield of aggregates.
