Abstract: In the light of the regional physiographic characteristics and their effect onclay mineral composition of cohesive sediment,the source of cohesive sedimentat the Yangtze River Estuary can be considered as coming from 3 supplyingregions, namely,the Yangtze River upstrean of Jiangyin(YR), the abandonedYellow River Delta at the north of Jiangsu Province and northwest Huanghia Sea(AYRDHS),and the Hangzhou Bay and northwest Donghia Sea(HBDS).The convergingregion is the Yangtze River Estuary(YRE).Sampling sites have been set up bothin the supplying regions and converging region.Positions of supplying regionsand converging region and their sampling sites are shown in Fig.1.
