Abstract: Hydraulic properties of sediment flushing through low-level sluices to clear reservoir sedimentation is described, and the sediment desilting capacity equations are formulated from the prototype experiment data for designing the optimum dimensions and operation of the sluices. It is demonstrated that, although applications of the flushing technique have so far mainly been for relatively small capacity reservoirs, the technique is now proving successful in large reservoirs where the sediment particle is fine.
