Abstract: Research on high velocity flow in erodible channels is reviewed. Criteria for the existence of various channel forms and sediment transporta-tion, such as antidunes, alternating bars, meanders, a plane bed in the upperregime, immature debris flow and debris flow are given as is the formula for theboundary of each domain of these criteria. The laws of resistance to flow andthe formula for the sediment transport or velocity distribution in the flow foreach aspect of it are shown through a critical analysis ofexperimental data. The existence of various types of flows during massive sediment transport isforcussed on and their mechanical significances explained.
