Abstract: Physical and mathematical modelling gives in most cases only partial answers. A bubble plume is used as an example in which such partial answers are combined to state research problems of this complex flow. A careful amalysis of the modelling techniques allows a classification of the combined properties of the prototype, the mathematical and the physical models.
