Abstract: An analytical solution for the vortex flow in a vertical shaft is presented. The solution depends on two nondimensional parameters, the Froude number and the circulation number. The distances where the circulation is one percent of the initial circulation and the annular jet attains ninety nine percent of the limiting velocit y de pend primaril y on the Froude number.
