Abstract: An analytical solution of the infiltration equation subject to nonuni form initial and arbitrary boundary conditions is derived. The approach involves the use of any realistic function D (θ) and K (θ) which can be described by polygonial courses and does not incorporate any simplifying assumptions. The solution turns out to be a rather simple formula, which can be verified as analytical solution by directly inserting this formula in the governing differential equation. An application of the new formula to an infiltration problem is presented.
